Co-Founders Diary: A Night Of Gilda's Tryst Style Retro Fun

We went to the Other Cinema at the Troxy this week - our men wearing black ties, ladies glammed up, Big Band music, flowing bubbly and finally - after the band, a show with dancing and comedy, after that the pearly kings and queens, and then finally David Lean's Brief Encounter.
I (Shireen) had never seen it and absolutely loved it.  In some ways, this 1945 film captures a period in time that feels so far away (telephones in tobaccanists, an acceptance between this pair who fall in love so intensely that this has to be sacrificed because, socially, exiting their own marriages was not an option) and yet the film also felt like it could have been written today -  when Celia Johnson's character Laura talks about that experience of meeting and connecting with Trevor Howard's Alec, of doubt and ambivalence of the temptation to stray, the film feels like it hasn't aged in the slightest.  Oh and Amanda and I remembered that Celia Johnson used to go to our school and that we used to have drama classes in a theatre  named after her.

Amanda and I were wearing some of our Gilda’s Tryst Vintage Inspired pieces: Amanda wore Pearl Striptease BraceletPearl & Silver Chastity Earrings, and I wore: Lady Chatterley Necklace and Bracelet and Onyx Stud Earrings. Pity the photos don’t show any of it!
