6) Sugar Man: A song  that plucks your proverbial heart-strings, by Sixto Rodriquez who played in London this week

7)  Discovering Shirataki Noodles, made from Yam these are low G.I.  Here's one recipe idea from someone who cooks a lot better than us.

8) A perfect day to night look.  A metallic pencil skirt with a simple tee, teamed with a smoky quartz or pyrite gemstone lariat and a pair of matching stud earrings. Enough sparkle for night, enough subtlety for day.

On Saturday night the singer Diana Vickers celebrated her 21st birthday at the Mayfair nightclub Whiskey Mist wearing jewellery by... guess who? Gilda’s Tryst! The day before a friend of hers stopped by our Covent Garden boutique to pick up the accessories as the star was busy preparing for her performance later that night.

On the night the X-factor semi-finalist, who is currently touring with Olly Murs and JLS, looked beautiful in a Stella McCartney black column dress accessorised with our Gold Cobra Cuff and Turquoise and Gold Cleopatra Earrings.

The Great Gatsby & The Roaring 20s

The trailer for the 2012 remake of The Great Gatsby has recently been released. If you haven’t seen it yet, here it is:

The Great Gatsby, originally a romantic drama novel written by the legendary F. Scott Fitzgerald, has already been adapted in cinema quite a few times. We particularly adored the 1974 movie which was pretty fantastic with a young oh-so-dashing Robert Redford as Jay Gatsby, and a willowy Mia Farrow as his object of desire Daisy Buchannan...

The 2012 Great Gatsby, directed by Baz Luhrmann (his previous films include Australia and Moulin Rouge), stars Leo Di Caprio, Toby Maguire, elfin British actress Carey Mulligan (who recently played in Pride & Prejudice) and the model Gemma Ward.  Here at Gilda’s Tryst offices, we are very excited and will be counting down the days until we can see the film - which unfortunately won’t be released until Boxing Day!  Expectations run high; will it meet the challenge??
We certainly love the style!  Check out our Pearl Repentance Bracelet & Silver Lace Headpiece to get this look
For those of you new to the story – F Scott Fitzgerald’s almost perfect little novel is set in early summer 1922 in West Egg, Long Island, where Nick Carraway, a recent Yale graduate who fought in World War I, decides to rent a house for the summer. Neighbouring his place is the mansion of self-made millionaire Gatsby, and across the water is the house of Gatsby’s one-time pre-war girlfriend Daisy – now unhappily married to Tom Buchannan.  Nick is lured into the lavish world of his neighbour with its opulence, glamour, loneliness and obsession.
As you may already know we at GT draw a lot creatively from books, music, fashion and film of bygone eras. Our Gatsby collection, with its pearls, lariats and long rope necklaces, captures the essence of 1920s glamour.

Let’s flap back to the roaring 20s and Get that Great Gatsby look.

Carrie Bradshaw in our spotlight

Even though we were pretty disappointed with the Sex & the City films, the series still defines unadulterated pleasure for us. We love dipping back into them during  lazy evenings on the sofa!
A few nights ago, we watched episode 14 of season 3 again – the one where Carrie & the BFFs are in LA as Carrie is discussing movie options. This episode aired in 2000, and it inspired our Fever range – we totally fell in love with Carrie's bolt, and for our collection put together a series of pieces inspired by Carrie’s iconic necklace.

This fever ring is one our favourites and three years on, it still retains pride of place in our collection:

One of our signature looks is layering jewellery – gemstones and lots of freshwater pearls – and here again is Carrie, styling the layered look so it’s cute, bold and effortless all at the same time.

More Mad Men Style

The fifth season of Mad Men wrapped last week, leaving some of us here at Gilda’s Tryst literally crying for more. We have to wait a whole year to get our next fix – what does the closing shot of Don Draper predict!? Well, that’s all we’ll say for now, as we don’t want to spoil the surprise to those of you who haven’t seen it yet!
Let’s leave plot aside and review the season’s fashion instead. Mad Men fully embraces 1966/7 in its 5th season: from miniskirts to monochrome outfits. As usual, the signature accessories are out in force and this season they get bolder and edgier, especially with sexy young hot wife Megan Draper on board.

Here is our favourite peek:

We loved Megan’s Coral dress and long chain link necklace - and doesn't it look just a touch like our Hello Sailor necklaces?

Back on the block after maternity, Joan hasn’t lost any of her office style prowess this season. Check out this emerald green dress trimmed with block colour silk, the famous ‘pen-on-chain’ and bold gold flower brooch and similar earrings. Get the look with our gold frisk pendant on a long gold chain and gold pearl Victoria Brooch.

OK, so she Betty is battling her weight this season, but she’s still beautiful and she still never leaves the house without gorgeous pearls, a chick silk scarf around the neck and her gloves. Our twin line pearl necklace and pearl stud earrings are what we would wear to get the look.

Dressed to impress, Megan really embraces old-fashioned evening glamour here, attending a function with Don and her parents. We would suggest our silver pearl duchess earringssilver pearl victoria ring and pearl & silver victoria pendant on a short silver chain.

Joan favours shapely floral wiggle dresses here matched with sparkly black and gold earrings – get the look with our hematite & gold aurora earrings.

Natalie Wood - classic beauty, sixties style & screen icon

Today we thought we would share a little about Natalie Wood, a lady who encapsulated the effortless beauty and elegance. The  super-skilled actress had 3 Oscar nominations under her slender belt before the age of 25 and acted in over 55 films. She is best known for her screen roles in Miracle on 34th Street (as a child star), Rebel Without a Cause, Splendor in the Grass (one of our favourites) and West Side Story, a modern Romeo & Juliet tragedy. She died dramatically young, drowning in California, aged only 43.
Here’s our take on a little bit of Natalie Wood Style:
